Elwood W. Cailteux - Ashkum
Elwood W. Cailteux, 85, of Ashkum, died Monday (April 23, 2012) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, following a lengthy illness. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clifton, where he was a member. Father John Eck will officiate.
Burial will be in the L'Erable Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made for Masses or to the Clifton Area Food Pantry.
Mr. Cailteux was a lifelong farmer in the L'Erable area. He was born Sept. 3, 1926, in rural Clifton, the son of Herman and Lena Leveque Cailteux. He was an avid baker and candy maker. He enjoyed gardening.
Surviving are his wife, the former Roselma Meyer, of Ashkum, whom he married Jan. 29, 1949, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Kankakee; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and James Friedli, of Monroe, Wis., Rebecca and Douglas Hale, of Ashkum, Laurie and Jacky Chen, of Racine, Wis., and Cynthia and Roaul Boudreau, of Chebanse; 10 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Mardelle and Louis Schuh, of Papineau; and one foster daughter-in-law, Lana Beaupre, of Clifton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Darrel; one sister, Roselma; and one foster son, Norman Beaupre.
