Sally J. Wahls, 77, of Piper City, died at 1:16 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 7, 2012) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Chatsworth, and from 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chatsworth, until the 11 a.m. funeral services. Pastor Jerry Gentes will officiate.
Burial will be in Chatsworth Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
Mrs. Wahls was a kitchen supervisor at Greenbriar Nursing Home in Piper City and a school bus driver for Piper City schools. She was born Nov. 19, 1934, in Winchester, the daughter of Sam and Frieda Klotz Danenberger. She was educated at University High School in Normal. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Chatsworth. She enjoyed sewing, bird watching, gardening, camping and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Floyd L. Wahls, of Piper City, whom she married Feb. 19, 1955, in Bloomington; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steve and Rhonda Wahls, of Loomis, Neb., Greg and Cathy Wahls, of Piper City, and Glenn Wahls, of Gibson City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Charles Hay, of Gibson City, and Victoria and Jay Beck, of Melvin; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sam "Bo" Danenberger, of Danvers, and John "Butch" Danenberger, of Normal; and one sister, Sue Swartz, of Huntsville, Ala.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
