George McGrath - Kankakee

George McGrath, 56, of Kankakee, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 21, 2012) in Kankakee.

Mr. McGrath was employed by Kozol Brothers Inc. for 10 years. He was previously employed by the Anheuser-Busch Corp. He was born Jan. 9, 1956, the son of George and Ruth Winchel McGrath. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, watching NASCAR, boat racing and watching sports. He was a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his brother-in-law and friend, Ray Azzarelli, who passed away June 1, 2010.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Azzarelli, whom he married Nov. 7, 2008, in Geneva; one brother, Scott McGrath, of Cocoa, Fla.; one sister, Lue Anice and Lester Binder, of Chicago; stepmother, Jean Kitchen, of Bridgeview; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Sam and Jean Azzarelli, of Kankakee; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Vicki Azzarelli, of Land O'Lakes, Fla., James and Mary Azzarelli, of Tampa, Fla., Paula and Phil Czernik, Jeanne and Jeff James and Greg and Julia Azzarelli, all of Kankakee; two nieces and two nephews, Kevin Zikis, of Sycamore, Kate (Jon) Tenpenny, of Howell, and Austin and Rachel McGrath, of Woodridge; and two great-nephews and one great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering time for family and friends will be from 3 p.m. Saturday until the 7 p.m. funeral services at the Schreffler Life Story Funeral Homes, Kankakee Chapel. Father Mario Quejadas will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chicago Cubs Charities, 1060 W. Addison St., Chicago, IL 60613.
