Visitation for Wata Garner, 78, of Kankakee, will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Jones Funeral Home in Kankakee, and from 9 a.m. Saturday at Morning Star Baptist Church, Kankakee, until the 10 a.m. funeral services. Pastor C. Ramont Morris will officiate and Pastor Carl Randle will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory, Kankakee. He died Sunday (Jan. 1, 2012) in Plainfield.
Mr. Garner worked as a machine repairman for Ford Motor Co. and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was born April 10, 1933, the son of Emmett Garner and Mamie Boss-Garner. He married the former Cora Lee Cox, and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Steven Garner, of Peoria, and Craig Garner, of Kankakee; two daughters, Karen Garner, of Plainfield, and Sasha Lienau, of Kankakee; nine grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Frances and Thomas Jordan, Antonides Andrews, James Cox and Clifton Cox, all of Kankakee; and four sisters-in-law, Lou A. Hunter, of Kankakee, Lois (Lee) Reid, of Markham, Ruby Tate, of Joliet, and Jackie Adkins, of San Diego, Calif.
Mr. Garner was preceded in death by five siblings, Margaret Garner, Charles Garner, Loraine Nailing, Norma Jean Garner-Farmer and Armenta Grice.
