Roy Wilson, 97, of Herscher, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 18, 2012) at Sojourn -- a Riverside Senior Living Community in Kankakee. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. funeral services at the Herscher United Methodist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. Scott Baird will officiate. Interment will follow in Pilot Cemetery in Herscher. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross. Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home, west Kankakee, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wilson was a farmer. He was also a salesman for Hendrix Town & Country. He was born April 3, 1914, in Norris City, the son of Clarence and Cora Walters Wilson. His wife, the former Bertha Christophel, whom he married April 23, 1943, in Harrisburg, Pa., preceded him in death. He was a trustee for Pilot Township Fire Protection District for 13 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served four years in the 3rd Armored Division. He was a member of the American Legion, the Herscher Chamber of Commerce, the Kankakee County Farm Bureau and the 3rd Armored Division Association.
Surviving are one sister-in-law, Doris Wilson, of Gaffney, S.C.; five nephews and three nieces; and special friends, George Myers and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lester Wilson, Joyce Wilson and Louis B. Wilson; and two sisters, Cathleen Wright and Dorothy Burdick.
