Harry L. "Harold" Springer - St. Anne

Visitation for Harry L. "Harold" Springer, 69, of St. Anne, will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Jones Funeral Home, Kankakee, and from 9 a.m. Saturday at the Zion Gate Missionary Baptist Church, Kankakee, until the 10 a.m. funeral services. Pastor Ronald L. Bartlett will officiate.

Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory, Kankakee. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for sickle cell research. He died Saturday (Jan. 14, 2012) at his home.

Mr. Springer worked at Bunge Foods Corp., retiring after more than 40 years of service. He was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Columbus, Miss., the son of Jimmie and Cora Jones Springer. He was a member of Zion Gate Missionary Baptist Church, where he volunteered his culinary skills.

Surviving are his wife, the former Deborah Bills, of St. Anne, whom he married Oct. 9, 1965, in Chicago; one son, Jason Springer, of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Tanja and Eric Murphy, of Jackson, Miss.; three grandchildren, Julius Lee Williams, JasLynn M. Murphy and Aimee Springer; one great-granddaughter, Journey L. Williams; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Xavier Washington, Mildred Peterson and Alisa Springer, all of Kankakee, Sandra Kaye Springer, of Burnham, and Gregory Bills, of Griffin, Ga.; four brothers and one sister-in-law, Jesse "Willie" Springer, Jerry Springer and Carl Springer, all of Kankakee, Curtis Springer, of Chicago, and Cynthia (Donald) Somerville, of St. Anne; and a host of special friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eugene Springer; and one cousin, Larry Barry.
