Dorothy Mary Yonke - Ashkum

Dorothy M. Yonke, 103, of Ashkum, passed away Wednesday morning (Dec. 7, 2011) at the Merkle-Knipprath Catholic Home in Clifton. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Assumption BVM Catholic Church in Ashkum.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Kankakee. Memorials in her name may be made to the Children of Israel Orphanage.

Mrs. Yonke was a homemaker and taught piano. She was born Dec. 5, 1908, in Ashkum, the daughter of Fred and Mary Daschner Tascher. Her husband, Edwin Leo Yonke, whom she married Nov. 21, 1928, at Assumption BVM Catholic Church, Ashkum, preceded her in death Dec. 1, 1985. She was a member of Assumption BVM Catholic Church in Ashkum and the CCW. For many years she was the church organist and had also played for numerous other occasions. She was the past president of the Iroquois County Home Bureau. She was a member and past regent and district deputy of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Surviving are one son-in-law, Gerald "Pete" Peters, of Ashkum; one daughter-in-law, Diane Yonke, of Spring City, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Nancy (Brent) Eden, of Wyoming, Mich., Julie (Eddie) Robertson, of Spring City, Tom (Laura) Peters, of Chatham, Greg (Dorothy) Yonke, of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Gary Yonke and Debra Morris, both of Spring City; 14 great-grandchildren, three stepgreat-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and eight stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Yonke; one daughter, Mary Peters; one grandson, Mark Eden; and one brother.
