Vincas "Dr. J" Janevicius, M.D. - Kankakee
Vincas "Dr. J" Janevicius, M.D., 89, of Kankakee, died Friday (Nov. 18, 2011) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee, after a long illness. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family wishes. Cremation rites will be accorded by the Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Crematory, west Kankakee.
He was born July 18, 1922, in Vilnius, Lithuania. He finished medical school in Hamburg, Germany, and came to the United States in 1951, where he started his medical career in 1952 at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital. He came to Kankakee in 1962 and served as clinical director at Kankakee State Hospital for 27 years. He also had a private practice in psychiatry in Kankakee and was an aviation medical examiner. He spoke five different languages. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church in Kankakee, the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the Kankakee Valley Pilots Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He enjoyed listening to music and played many different musical instruments. He held a private pilot's license and enjoyed flying his plane to numerous destinations. He also enjoyed golfing and swimming.
Surviving are his wife, the former Anna Balciunaite, of Kankakee, whom he married Jan. 7, 1953, in Chicago; two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Lori Janevicius, of Oak Brook, and Richard and Ellen Janevicius, of Naperville; one daughter, Audra Bowen, of Marlton, N.J.; and two grandchildren, Michelle and Marshall Janevicius, both of Oak Brook.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
