Donald Sinclair Huckins - Ann Arbor MI


     Donald Sinclair Huckins was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Kankakee, the son of Donald Sinclair Huckins and Florence Judd. After growing up in Kankakee, he enlisted and served with the 9th Air Force and was stationed in France. There, Donald met his future wife, Adele Roehm, during the war and they later married in 1950. Upon returning to the United States, he attended Bradley and DePauw universities in Illinois, where he graduated with a master's degree in psychology. He worked for the State of Iowa in the psychology department at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute from 1959 until his retirement. Donald passed away Jan. 7, 2011, at the VA hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., at the age of 86.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Florence; wife, Adele, in September 1999; and brother, Bill.
     Surviving Donald are his friend, Jeanny Knaff Shammas and her children: daughters, Viviane and Bob, of Ann Arbor, Suzanne Wray and husband, Richard, of Glenwood, Iowa, and Paula Larimer and husband, Terry, of Indianola, Iowa; sons, William Huckins of Mason City, Iowa, Richard Huckins of Clarinda, Iowa, and John Huckins of Columbus, Neb.; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and cousin, Lynn Huckins, of Fort Collins, Colo.
     A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Walker Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., prior to the service.
